Join the Lab

Come build something out of DNA.

We recruit for curiosity and interest first — prior DNA experience is not required. Applications are reviewed holistically beyond GPA and publication lists. Chemists, materials scientists, biomedical engineers, and dentists all do good work here; the lab welcomes international students. Dr. Carneiro reads every inquiry personally. For MSc and PhD positions, you must also complete the official U of T Dentistry graduate application so the admissions committee can review your candidacy.

Three ways to join

Each path has a different application route — review the role that fits you, then follow the steps below.

How to apply

  1. Explore Review the open roles above and choose the position that fits your background and goals.
  2. Email Dr. Carneiro Send a brief cover letter, your CV, and (for graduate and postdoctoral applicants) a summary of your research interests.
  3. Apply officially MSc and PhD candidates must also submit the U of T Dentistry graduate application via the School of Graduate Studies portal.

Graduate admissions details

You do not need to be a dentist to apply. The Faculty of Dentistry runs this process jointly with the School of Graduate Studies. The official application asks you to contact a potential supervisor first, then submit a statement of research interest, your CV, two reference letters, and official transcripts (plus English proficiency scores if applicable).

By emailing the lab you send personal information (name, email, CV/content) to Dr. Carneiro. Official graduate admissions are handled by U of T, not this website.

Use your position type in the subject line (e.g. MSc, PhD, Postdoc, Undergrad).
